Visiting the Netherlands

The Netherlands is a popular holiday destination. It receives millions of visitors every year who are attracted by its wealth of flowers and its windmills, old towns, seaside resorts and its impressive water management structures, unique in the world.

Amsterdam, the country's capital, attracts the majority of visitors. Its historic centre, museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Stedelijk) and canals, flanked by magnificent mansions, are world famous.
But The Hague (seat of the International Court of Justice and the Peace Palace), Delft, Utrecht and Haarlem to name but a few cities, each have their own attractions, with historic buildings, museums, traditions and special events. Rotterdam, the world's largest port, with its futuristic architecture, is well worth a visit. Thanks to the country's excellent infrastructure, visitors will find their voyage of discovery through the Netherlands need not take longer than a few days.

There are more than 400 Tourist Information offices to help visitors find their way in the Netherlands. Some general tourist information is available at the Embassy, but please contact the Netherlands Bureau for Tourism www.vvv.nl for more detailed information.
